Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is calling for suggestions to amend its constitution to enhance its effectiveness.
Secretary-General Emeka Sibeudu announced that memoranda should be submitted to the Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat in Enugu between March 1 and 12, 2025.
“The Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide is currently undergoing review. We invite all Igbo to submit proposals for amendments, suggestions, and ideas to enhance the effectiveness and relevance of our organization,” the statement read.
Stakeholders, including state chapters, affiliates, and Igbo communities worldwide, are encouraged to participate. A public hearing will be held on March 14 in Imo State to allow further discussion and clarification.
UNIEC Excludes Former Rivers Contestants
The United Igbo Elders Council (UNIEC) has declared that former contestants from Rivers State will not be eligible for nomination as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
“Our choice of Rivers State to produce the next President General is to ensure inclusiveness, balance, and unity among the Igbo people globally,” said UNIEC’s Director-General, Justice Alpha Ikpeama.
In a joint statement with Director of Media and Publicity Prof. Obasi Igwe, UNIEC dismissed claims that the decision was meant to create division, calling such suggestions “mischief-making.”
The group has allocated leadership positions across different Igbo states and stressed that nominees must be individuals of integrity. All nominations will be ratified by the Board of Trustees (BoT) at its March 2025 meeting.
