New moves are underway to reinstate Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly after his removal by 32 lawmakers on January 13, 2025. Mojisola Meranda was elected as his replacement, but efforts are being made to reverse the decision.
Sources revealed that the Presidency and Governance Advisory Council (GAC) are pressuring lawmakers to support Obasa’s return. This comes after the disbandment of the Bisi Akande-led committee, which had been set up to resolve the crisis but reportedly found the odds stacked against Obasa.
According to Vanguard Online, a source stated: “The Bisi Akande committee has been disbanded. The President has reached out to members of GAC who have loyalists or children in the Assembly to insist they work for Obasa’s return as Speaker.”
Additionally, political allies in the State Executive Council have been urged to push for Obasa’s reinstatement.
