As speculations mount over the 2027 presidential race, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has responded to calls for him to become President Bola Tinubu’s running mate, saying he will do “whatever the President wants” and will do it 100%.
Speaking to journalists during a briefing on the forthcoming zonal public hearing of the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, Senator Jibrin (APC, Kano North) dismissed discussions around the 2027 elections as premature, urging focus on governance instead.
“Instead of wasting energy on what’s not relevant now, channel your resources to support the President,” he said, adding that Tinubu is his political father who has done much for him and the people of Kano.
Jibrin credited Tinubu with helping him secure his Senate ticket in 2023 and supporting his rise to Deputy Senate President. He emphasized loyalty to Tinubu and commended the President’s efforts to address Nigeria’s inherited challenges and chart a course for national prosperity.
“When the time comes, we’ll play politics. But this time is for governance,” Jibrin noted.
