Telecommunications giant MTN Nigeria has unveiled its Mega Billion Promo, a nationwide reward programme aimed at easing the burden on subscribers and deepening customer engagement at a time of rising living costs.
The launch event, held at the company’s rooftop lounge in Lagos, brought together MTN executives, journalists, and long-time customers for an evening of recognition and celebration.
Nigeria has been grappling with persistent inflation, which peaked at 24.48 percent in January before dipping slightly to 23.18 percent in February, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. With food, transportation, and fuel prices steadily climbing, many households are struggling to manage their daily expenses.
Against this backdrop, MTN’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, said the promo was designed to provide relief and reward loyal customers. “In the last couple of years, it’s been a very tough time for Nigerians. And as a company that is committed to making our customers’ lives better, we consistently look for ways to achieve this. This Mega Billion promo is one of such initiatives,” she said during a July 19 media briefing in Ikoyi.
The three-month campaign, which kicked off on June 23, promises to create 195 millionaires while distributing more than ₦1 billion in cash prizes through MTN’s MoMo Payment Service Bank. Already, over 1,500 participants have shared winnings exceeding ₦290 million, including three jackpot winners and 20 lucky customers who each walked away with ₦5 million.
Beyond these big wins, hundreds of others have claimed prizes ranging from ₦25,000 to ₦100,000. The scheme is open to all MTN subscribers aged 18 and above, with entry possible by dialling *900#, sending “MEGA” to 900, or using the MyMTN app. Every recharge of ₦100 or more earns points toward daily and Saturday draws. While weekday prizes span from ₦25,000 to ₦5 million, the Saturday Mega Draw offers a grand reward of ₦10 million. Winnings are paid directly into the winners’ MoMo wallets, which can be activated by dialling *671#.
To safeguard credibility, MTN says the draws are managed by independent auditors and streamed live on its social media platforms. Winners are officially contacted only by the MTN Call Centre through its 300 number.
The company emphasized that while the initiative is not a cure for Nigeria’s broader economic challenges, it is intended to “bring delight, reward loyalty, and make staying connected more rewarding.”
