President Bola Tinubu has promised that Nigeria will take the lead in Africa’s growth by focusing on technology, food security, and innovation.
Speaking to Nigerians in Brazil on Wednesday, Tinubu said his administration is determined to fast-track the country’s development by learning from successful economies like Brazil.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga quoted Tinubu as saying:
“We must bring Nigeria to the forefront of Africa’s progress, driven by technology, food sovereignty, and the courage to change our destiny.”
The President explained that his visit to Brazil was a strategic move to strengthen bilateral ties and learn from the South American nation’s development path. He noted that Nigeria and Brazil once had similar economic levels but Brazil has since surged ahead.
“Once upon a time, Nigeria and Brazil stood on the same level. Look at Brazil today, its technology, its food systems. We must ask ourselves: what do they have that we don’t?
We have the brains, the energy, and the youth. We have everything we need. Now, we must act.”
Tinubu praised the Nigerian diaspora community in Brazil, describing them as vital partners in the effort to rebuild the country.
“You are the pride of our nation. Your diversity, your commitment — it reflects the Nigeria we are working to build. I salute you all,” he said.
Acknowledging the hardship caused by ongoing economic reforms, Tinubu likened them to “bitter medicine” that will eventually lead to long-term stability.
“Yes, the reforms are tough — like bitter medicine. But once the fever is gone, you know the cure was worth it,” he stated.
The President further assured that his government is laying the foundation for global partnerships in technology, manufacturing, and cultural exchange to unlock Nigeria’s potential.
He also called on Nigerians everywhere to remain united, peaceful, and passionate about building a stronger nation.
“If Wole Soyinka, at over 90, can still dream and act, then we have no excuse. The dream must be realised. The time is now,” Tinubu said.
