The Supreme Egbesu Assembly (SEA), representing the Ijaw people, responded to Minister Nyesom Wike’s claim that nothing would happen if Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is impeached. The SEA warned that President Bola Tinubu will face consequences if Fubara is removed.
Former PDP Deputy Chairman Chief Olabode George also called on President Tinubu to restrain Wike, criticizing his inflammatory comments. “Wike’s rhetoric is dangerous and embarrassing,” George said.
In a related development, the Rivers State House of Assembly has called for a Department of State Services (DSS) investigation into allegations of age falsification by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi.
Governor Fubara has appealed to lawmakers to prioritize the state’s peace, stating, “We must abide by the Supreme Court’s judgment and focus on the peace and development of Rivers.”
Werinipre Digifa, SEA Chairman, criticized Wike for his actions, accusing him of arrogance toward the Ijaw people.
“Tinubu should be held responsible for Wike’s reckless behavior,” Digifa stated, warning that Ijaw people would not resort to violence if Fubara is impeached but will not remain silent either.
Bode George also questioned Wike’s authority, saying, “Does Wike think he controls all the forces in Rivers State? He’s becoming an embarrassment.” He urged Tinubu to take action, stressing that if Wike’s behavior continues, it could escalate into a larger crisis.
Meanwhile, Fubara emphasized the importance of peace, saying, “The only thing we owe Rivers State is peace and development.” He noted that despite the challenges facing his administration, his government is committed to improving education and healthcare in the state, highlighting the renovation of Okrika Grammar School.
In the legislature, the House of Assembly voted to invite the DSS to investigate the allegations against Chief Judge Amadi, following claims of age falsification presented during plenary.
