Chief Uzodinma Okpara, son of the late Premier of the defunct Eastern Region, Dr. Michael Okpara, has declared his full backing for Abia State Governor Alex Otti and pledged to support his second-term bid in 2027.
Okpara made the declaration on Wednesday during a press briefing at his residence in Umuegwu Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area. He urged residents of the state to unite behind the governor, commending him for adopting a leadership approach similar to that of his late father, with emphasis on public service, economic growth and food security.
“I will campaign for Otti, and I will mobilise as many people as possible to join me in that campaign,” Okpara said.
The former state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party during Orji Kalu’s administration praised Otti’s efforts in rebuilding infrastructure and driving development across key sectors. He noted that the governor’s performance in education, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development had produced visible improvements in the lives of residents.
“Families are enjoying a better life now, while businesses are thriving with improved infrastructure,” he said, adding that “Otti has laid and is still laying the foundation for a prosperous Abia. Advocacy for continued development and support for forthcoming projects is essential.”
Also speaking, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Chief Obi Aguocha, described Okpara’s endorsement as a source of encouragement. He hailed the governor’s achievements and called him “God-sent to Abia,” noting that Otti assumed office with a clear plan to transform the state.
Other stakeholders from Ohuhu, including Umuahia North LGA Chairman Smart Ihuoma, the Traditional Ruler of Oriendu Ancient Kingdom, Eze Philip Ajomiwe, and chartered accountant Justin Nwosu, also voiced their support for the governor.
