Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has filed a lawsuit at the Lagos High Court, contesting his recent impeachment and seeking his immediate reinstatement.
Obasa, who was removed from office on January 13, 2025, is challenging the validity of the impeachment process.
In his legal filing, he is requesting the court to declare his removal null and void and to reinstate him as Speaker.
The lawsuit, submitted on Thursday, lists the current Speaker, Lasbat Mojisola Meranda, and the Lagos State House of Assembly as defendants.
Obasa argues that the plenary session where he was impeached was not properly convened, making the process unconstitutional.
He further claims that the impeachment violated constitutional guidelines and the Assembly’s standing orders.
According to the suit, lawmakers met and voted during a recess without officially reconvening, thereby rendering the proceedings unlawful.
The case has yet to be assigned to a judge, and a hearing date is still pending.
