The Senate has officially adjourned plenary to September 23, 2025, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio urging chairmen and members of all ad-hoc and standing committees to utilize the recess to complete their legislative assignments and prepare final reports.
Speaking after the adjournment, Akpabio emphasized the importance of completing committee mandates during the break, stating, “Chairmen and members of our various Ad-hoc and standing committees… should use the period of the adjournment to finish up with the assignments and report back to Senate on resumption.”
The decision to adjourn followed a two-hour closed-door meeting and aligned with the earlier adjournment of the House of Representatives. Consequently, several key legislative items listed for consideration—including reports on the establishment of six federal universities, agricultural colleges, and solid mineral development—were stepped down until the Senate reconvenes.
Five bills awaiting concurrence were also deferred.
