KANO, — Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has removed Engr. Buba Galadima as Chairman of the Governing Council of Kano State Polytechnic and appointed the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, as the new chair, according to an official state statement. The governor’s office said the change is part of institutional restructuring and alignment with the administration’s “Kano First Agenda.” While governing council terms are typically three years, the statement said Galadima’s appointment was ended early due to ongoing reforms aimed at improving the institution’s performance.
Governor Yusuf thanked Galadima for his service and urged the new chairman to apply his leadership experience toward strengthening academic and administrative standards at the polytechnic. The move comes amid a broader pattern of executive changes in Kano’s tertiary education governance since Yusuf took office, including periodic council reconstitutions and management reviews in state-owned institutions.
In practical terms, leadership changes at governing-council level can influence budget oversight, infrastructure priorities, recruitment approvals, and policy direction—but day-to-day institutional outcomes will depend on how quickly the new council settles, how it coordinates with management, and whether reform objectives are backed by funding and clear performance targets.
