The Federal Government has directed an immediate investigation into the recent jailbreak at the Koton Karfe Correctional Centre in Kogi State.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, issued the directive on Monday, according to a statement by his aide, Babatunde Alao.
Describing the incident as regrettable, the minister assured that authorities would take all necessary steps to recapture the escaped inmates.
“Our men are on top of the situation in Kogi, and I have ordered a comprehensive audit of the situation,” he stated.
Tunji-Ojo also emphasized that security personnel would utilize biometric data and advanced technology to track down the fugitives.
Additionally, the minister instructed the Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Sylvester Ndidi, to visit the correctional facility, assess the damage, and initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the escape.
