Dr. Victor Omololu Sowemimo Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, passed away on April 6, 2025, at the age of 89, just days before his 90th birthday. Born on April 14, 1935, in Ibadan, he served as governor from October 1 to December 31, 1983.
A distinguished mathematician, engineer, and technocrat, Dr. Olunloyo held notable positions, including being the first Rector of both Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic. He also bore the traditional titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde expressed condolences, describing Dr. Olunloyo as “a highly cerebral and patriotic leader.” Former Governor Rasidi Ladoja and Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli also paid tribute, highlighting his incorruptibility and dedication to public service.
