Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has declared his support for Labour Party’s Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections.
During Obi’s visit to the Government House on Thursday, the two held a closed-door meeting for over an hour, followed by a press briefing. While no political alliance was confirmed, Mohammed expressed willingness to work with Obi.
“As a person, I am ready to work with Peter Obi and make sure we come together, close ranks, and bring good governance to the country,” Mohammed said. “We will provide a vibrant opposition… to help rescue and recover our country from the mediocre who are parading themselves as leaders.”
He added that their collaboration had the backing of other governors. “Our coming together is a message… We will take it up and move it forward in a way that going forward, you will see more of these joint efforts between us, Governor Obi, the PDP Governors, and the PDP as a party.”
Mohammed also commended Obi’s insights, noting, “It’s a delight to work with him… We in the PDP have always admired him. Behind the scenes, I have been meeting with him.”
Obi explained his visit was for discussions on national issues. “Given what our country is going through, I felt it was necessary to come and discuss the future of our dear country with him,” he said, emphasizing that these talks would continue.
He also highlighted the importance of addressing poverty and investing in agriculture in northern Nigeria.
“The North is a critical component if we are going to get it right in this country,” Obi said, urging leaders to focus on key national issues.
