Actor-turned-lawmaker Desmond Elliott has raised concerns over alleged intimidation and the withdrawal of his security aides ahead of party primaries for the 2027 general elections.
The Lagos State House of Assembly member claimed that recent developments surrounding his political activities appeared aimed at frustrating his participation in the primaries and weakening his support base.
Speaking on the situation, Elliott said the removal of his security personnel came at a sensitive period when political tensions were beginning to rise ahead of internal party contests.
According to him, the action has created safety concerns and heightened uncertainty among his supporters and associates. He also alleged that intimidation tactics were being deployed against him as political realignments intensify ahead of the elections.
The lawmaker, who represents Surulere Constituency, said despite the challenges, he remained committed to the democratic process and would not be discouraged from pursuing his political ambitions.
Elliott called on party leaders and security agencies to ensure a level playing field for all aspirants, stressing that political competition should not degenerate into harassment or intimidation.
He further urged authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the withdrawal of his security aides and ensure that public office holders are adequately protected while carrying out their responsibilities.
The development has sparked reactions within political circles in Lagos, with supporters expressing concern over rising tensions ahead of the primaries.
Some political observers noted that internal contests within major political parties are expected to become increasingly competitive as aspirants position themselves for key elective offices ahead of 2027.
Elliott, who transitioned from the entertainment industry into politics, has represented Surulere in the Lagos Assembly for multiple terms under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although details surrounding the withdrawal of the security aides remain unclear, sources familiar with the matter said discussions were ongoing within relevant authorities.
Party officials have yet to issue an official response to the allegations raised by the lawmaker.
Meanwhile, analysts say the incident highlights growing concerns about political pressure and internal rivalry as preparations gradually begin for the next election cycle.
The 2027 elections are expected to trigger intense political activity across the country, with aspirants already making strategic moves within their parties ahead of primary contests.
