The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has recognized Olufemi Soneye as Image Maker of the Year for his impactful efforts in transforming the company’s public image since assuming office in October 2023.
“Soneye embarked on a mission to overhaul NNPC’s communication framework. He introduced innovative media strategies and prioritised meaningful stakeholder engagement, seamlessly integrating modern technology with traditional relationship-building. Under his guidance, NNPC’s digital footprint has expanded significantly, leveraging social media platforms for real-time public interaction and fostering a more relatable corporate persona,” the organisation stated.
His expertise in media relations has played a crucial role in managing public perception of NNPC. A notable example was his handling of the Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation. “By facilitating media access to the refinery’s mechanical completion in December 2023, he transformed a potential public relations challenge into a testament to NNPCL’s dedication to progress and transparency,” the group noted.
The statement further emphasized that Soneye’s proactive approach has helped dispel misinformation and reinforce public confidence in NNPC’s operations. His contributions have also boosted the company’s international standing, attracting key partnerships and earning him the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations’ (NIPR) Distinguished Spokesperson Award in March 2024.
