President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” banning transgender women from competing in female sports. The order mandates that federal funds be withheld from schools that allow transgender athletes to participate in women’s teams. Trump also vowed to pressure the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to change its policies ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. He stated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has been directed to “make it clear” to the IOC that the U.S. seeks comprehensive changes regarding this issue.
This move is part of a broader effort by Trump’s administration to restrict transgender rights, including banning gender transition procedures for minors, limiting transgender military service, and eliminating third-gender recognition in government policies.
The order has been met with strong opposition from human rights organizations, with critics arguing that it promotes discrimination and harassment. Legal challenges are expected, as the decision intensifies the national debate on transgender inclusion in sports.
