President Donald Trump has criticised a vote by the United States House of Representatives aimed at limiting his authority over the ongoing conflict involving Iran, describing the move as “unpatriotic” and politically disruptive.
The House of Representatives recently passed a largely symbolic resolution seeking to require congressional approval for continued military operations in Iran. The measure, which passed 215–208, saw four Republican lawmakers join all Democratic members in supporting it, and now proceeds to the Senate for further consideration.
Reacting to the development on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the vote came at a sensitive moment in diplomatic efforts.
“Who would do such an unpatriotic thing. They know where the negotiations stand.”
He further accused Democratic lawmakers of undermining national interests for political reasons.
“(Democrats) would rather have our Country fail than give me another, of many, victories.”
Trump also directed criticism at Republican defectors who backed the measure.
“The four Republicans, that’s a whole other story — They’re GRANDSTANDERS! They should be ashamed of themselves.”
The White House maintains that the resolution is advisory and does not alter presidential war powers, while supporters of the measure argue it reinforces congressional authority over military engagements.
The dispute highlights growing tensions between the executive and legislature over control of U.S. foreign military action, particularly as the Iran conflict continues to generate political division in Washington.
