Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has issued an open appeal calling for an immediate ceasefire and a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a renewed diplomatic push to end the ongoing war between the two countries.
In the letter, Zelenskyy stressed that continued hostilities are deepening humanitarian suffering and called for urgent steps toward de-escalation. He proposed direct negotiations as a pathway to ending the conflict, arguing that dialogue remains the most viable option for achieving lasting peace.
The Ukrainian leader’s message comes amid continued fighting along multiple frontlines, with both sides sustaining casualties and infrastructure damage. Kyiv has repeatedly called for international backing for a ceasefire framework, while Moscow has maintained its own conditions for any negotiated settlement.
Zelenskyy said the time had come for leaders to meet directly to prevent further escalation.
“I propose a meeting and a ceasefire to stop the bloodshed.”
He also emphasised that diplomacy should not be delayed, warning that the humanitarian toll continues to rise as the war drags on.
The Russian government has not officially responded to the latest open letter at the time of reporting.
The appeal marks one of Zelenskyy’s more direct overtures in recent months, as international pressure continues to mount for renewed peace negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
