NATO has said it cannot independently confirm Israeli assertions that Iran possesses the capability to target major European cities such as Paris, Berlin, and London.
The statement follows claims by Israel Defense Forces that Tehran has developed long-range missiles capable of reaching parts of Europe, a warning issued amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
However, officials within the alliance indicated there is no verified intelligence assessment backing the claim. A senior Western official similarly noted that there is no evidence to suggest Iran is actively targeting Europe or has demonstrated such operational capability.
Israel’s position is partly based on recent missile activity, including reported launches toward a joint US-UK military facility on Diego Garcia, which Israeli sources say highlight extended range capabilities.
Despite this, NATO and allied governments have urged caution, emphasizing the need for verified intelligence before drawing conclusions about the scale of any potential threat to Europe.
The differing assessments underscore ongoing uncertainty over Iran’s missile reach and the broader security implications for Western allies as the regional conflict intensifies.
