A major fire near Glasgow Central Station has caused the partial collapse of a historic Victorian-era building and triggered widespread rail disruptions in the city centre.
The blaze began on Sunday afternoon on Union Street, reportedly starting in a ground-floor vape shop within a four-storey building dating back to 1851. Flames engulfed the structure, leaving only part of its façade intact after an overnight collapse.
Glasgow Central Station, Scotland’s busiest rail hub, remained closed on Monday, with dozens of services cancelled or rerouted. Operators said disruption will continue while safety inspections and cordons are maintained, with no timeline for full reopening.
No injuries have been reported, according to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. First Minister John Swinney expressed relief at the absence of casualties, while commending emergency responders for their efforts.
