Yemen’s Houthis have launched a missile attack on Israel, marking their direct entry into the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran and its adversaries.
The group confirmed firing ballistic missiles toward Israeli territory, describing the strike as part of its response to continued military action against Iran and allied regions. Israeli authorities said air defence systems were activated to intercept the incoming projectile, with sirens sounding in parts of the south.
Houthi officials indicated the attack was carried out in solidarity with Iran and other aligned groups, warning that operations would continue until what they termed “aggression” across the region ceases.
The strike represents the first confirmed Houthi attack on Israel in the current phase of the conflict and signals a widening of hostilities beyond the initial theatres of engagement. Analysts say the development raises concerns of broader regional escalation, as more Iran-aligned actors become directly involved.
The Houthis had earlier signalled readiness to intervene, stating their “fingers are on the trigger,” but had refrained from direct action until now.
