The Alliance of Sahel States (AES) has called for a joint mobilisation across member countries to denounce a recent resolution by the European Union concerning Niger’s ousted leader, Mohamed Bazoum.
In a statement, the bloc urged citizens and civil society groups to stage simultaneous demonstrations, describing the EU’s position as interference in the internal affairs of Niger. The AES argued that the resolution undermines the sovereignty of its member states and fails to reflect the region’s political realities.
While the EU has continued to push for the restoration of constitutional order and raised concerns over Bazoum’s detention, the AES maintained that external pressure would not dictate decisions within the alliance.
The bloc emphasized unity among its members, calling for a collective response to what it termed “unjustified external influence,” and reiterated its commitment to defending regional autonomy and political independence.
