Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has officially emerged as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Governor Soludo, who faced no opposition in the party’s primary, secured over 300 delegate votes in the exercise held on Saturday in Awka, the state capital.
Delegates from the 21 local government areas participated in the internal election by casting “yes” or “no” votes on their ballots. The voting process concluded with sorting and counting of the ballots to determine the outcome.
Uche Nwegbo, head of the electoral panel, disclosed the results, stating that out of 3,260 total delegates, 3,175 were accredited, and 3,172 votes were cast. Only four votes were deemed invalid, while the remaining 3,168 were in favor of Soludo, with zero votes against him.
Following the announcement, Nwegbo declared Soludo the APGA candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election, prompting loud applause from supporters in attendance.
Addressing the crowd after the confirmation of his candidacy, Governor Soludo expressed deep appreciation for the overwhelming support.
“I want to sincerely, with every deepest sense of humility, give gratitude to the Almighty God for His grace upon our lives, the God that gave Nigeria APGA, gave Anambra State APGA, and we said this is our own,” he said.
He continued, “With utmost gratitude to Him, utmost surrender to Him, in humility, I want to say that I’m humbled by this unprecedented historic display of solidarity, support, and overwhelming mandate given to me again by our party again to be able to fly its flag for the forthcoming election. And I want to say with humility, I accept the nomination.
“Let’s do it again together, let’s continue with the progressive movement in Anambra, Anambra is rising under the democratic leadership that we have here.”
Soludo also confirmed that he will be running alongside his current deputy, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, who will remain his running mate.
