The Nigeria Police Force has unsealed the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Secretariat at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, as well as Legacy House in Maitama, restoring access to the faction led by National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu. The development, announced by the party on Saturday, marks the end of a prolonged standoff over the control of the PDP’s national offices and gives the Wike-aligned bloc both physical and legal possession of the properties.
In a statement signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the party said the police action was carried out “in full compliance with duly issued court orders.” The statement said both Wadata Plaza and Legacy House had now been handed back to the recognised party leadership. The PDP also praised the police for what it described as professionalism and respect for due process.
The reopening is the latest twist in a leadership crisis that has paralysed the opposition party for months. Reporting on the dispute says the police originally sealed the secretariat in November 2025 after rival PDP factions clashed over control of the National Working Committee. The faction now back in the building is aligned with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and had argued that court rulings favoured its claim to the party structure.
With the offices reopened, the Mohammed-led camp said the crisis had been “effectively resolved” and urged aggrieved party members to embrace unity. But it also warned that it would not tolerate any further obstruction, disruption or breach of peace at the secretariat, adding that security agencies had been alerted to respond to any new violations. That language reflects how volatile the dispute remains, despite the apparent breakthrough.
The statement also openly acknowledged the role of Nyesom Wike, describing him as the party’s national leader and thanking him for his support during the impasse. That makes the political significance of the development especially clear: beyond reopening buildings, the move amounts to a visible consolidation of control by the Wike-backed faction at the centre of the PDP’s internal power struggle.
