Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed allegations linking him to militant groups, denouncing viral social media posts and videos as false attempts to incite panic in the state.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara criticized the spread of misleading information, particularly reports of alleged explosions at oil and gas installations in Rivers State.
The statement reassured the public that affected communities had denied such incidents, confirming that critical infrastructure remained intact and operational.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has no link to any militant group, does not contemplate any such association, and has no reason to encourage any criminal elements to undertake actions that threaten peace, security, or the economy,” the statement read.
Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring peace and stability in Rivers State, emphasizing that sustainable development is only possible in a secure environment.
He also warned against exploiting the ongoing political situation for selfish interests, urging bloggers and social media influencers to refrain from spreading unfounded claims that could heighten tensions.
Additionally, he called on security agencies to investigate and take appropriate action against individuals responsible for spreading disinformation, stressing the need to protect public order and prevent unnecessary panic.
