The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the killing of Mr. Ese Idisi, Vice Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
Idisi was reportedly murdered over the weekend by yet-to-be-identified assailants in Okpara Waterside community.
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, saying police have begun investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
“We got a report that he was murdered and we are presently investigating,” Edafe said.
APC demands full-scale investigation
The Delta State chapter of the APC described the killing as “brutal and condemnable,” expressing shock at the loss of one of its grassroots leaders.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, the party called on the Police and other security agencies to leave no stone unturned in unmasking those behind the attack.
“The perpetrators, sponsors, and anyone connected to this heinous act must be identified, apprehended and brought to justice without delay. Nothing short of a full-scale investigation will suffice in the prevailing circumstances,” the statement read.
The party also commiserated with Idisi’s family and political associates, noting that his death has created a painful void in Ethiope East Ward 4 and within the state APC structure.
Ex-council boss, community urged to assist security agencies
The immediate past Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government, Hon. Victor Ofobrukueta, also condemned the killing and urged security agencies to ensure that the culprits do not escape justice.
“Those killers of Mr. Idisi cannot go unpunished, hence I am calling on all security agents to apprehend and bring the perpetrators to book,” he said.
Ofobrukueta appealed to community leaders, youths and stakeholders across Ethiope East to support law enforcement with credible information.
“Security is a collective responsibility, and your cooperation may prove invaluable in bringing the culprits to justice and preventing further occurrences of such violence,” he added.
He extended condolences to Idisi’s family, APC youths, women, leaders and elders in the area, praying for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
As of the time of filing this report, details of the attack remain sketchy, and no arrests have been announced.
