After six harrowing days in captivity, the six Nigerian Law School students abducted on July 26, 2025, while traveling from Anambra State to Yola Campus in Adamawa State, have been rescued and reunited with their families.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the release in a statement issued on Friday, August 1, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Udeme Edet, in Makurdi, the state capital.
“The police have successfully rescued six law students of the Yola campus who were abducted on July 26 while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State. They have been safely released and reunited with their families this morning,” the statement read.
Background
The victims — Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David — were abducted along the Benue-Taraba boundary, a region notorious for insecurity and attacks on travelers.
Earlier reports indicated that the kidnappers demanded a ₦20 million ransom per student, but it remains unclear whether any ransom was paid for their release.

The police commended the efforts of all involved in the rescue and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property. The incident adds to growing concerns about traveler safety and the rising cases of abductions across Nigeria.
