A tragic accident occurred at the Area Command Bus Stop in Nnewi, Anambra State, when a cement-laden truck lost control and crashed into a residential building, claiming multiple lives. The devastating incident happened late Friday, with reports indicating at least five fatalities, including several children from the same family.
Eyewitnesses stated that the accident was caused by brake failure, leading the driver to lose control. The truck collided with several structures before ramming into a house near the main road. Residents and passers-by rushed to the scene to rescue trapped victims, but many were already lifeless. The driver of the truck also died in the crash.
The grieving mother of the deceased children was inconsolable as residents tried to comfort her while lifeless bodies remained at the crash site.
Confirming the incident, Anambra State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson Margaret Onabe acknowledged the accident and stated that further details would be gathered from officers at the scene. A senior police officer at the Nnewi Area Command also confirmed the crash, stating that investigations were underway.
Anambra State has recently witnessed a rise in fatal road accidents, sparking widespread concern. On January 31, 2025, six operatives of the Special Anti-Touting Squad lost their lives in a collision with a sand-laden truck at Oba in the Idemili South Local Government Area.
