A powerful explosion shook the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday afternoon, causing panic among commuters and residents. The blast, which occurred at approximately 2:50 PM, prompted an immediate response from security operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit of the FCT Police Command.
In a statement made available to Persecondnews, SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, confirmed the incident and said the area had been swiftly cordoned off to ensure public safety and allow for proper forensic investigation.
“On May 26, 2025, at approximately 02:50 PM, the FCT Police Command received a distress report regarding an explosion along the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass,” the statement read. “Upon receipt of the report, officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were immediately deployed to the scene. The affected area was swiftly cordoned off for clearance and analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents.”
Victim and Ongoing Investigation
According to the police, one male victim was rescued from the scene and taken to the hospital, where he is currently receiving medical attention. A comprehensive investigation is underway, including forensic analysis, to determine the exact cause and nature of the explosion. “The FCT Police Command urges members of the public to remain calm and carry on with their lawful activities without fear, as there is currently no cause for alarm,” SP Adeh added.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid speculations and allow the investigation to run its course. They also called on citizens to report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.
