The National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) said it is committed to taking all necessary precautions to safeguard public health and prevent its potential spread into the country
In a statement released on Monday, December 9, 2024, NBMA said that proactive measures, including heightened surveillance at borders, airports, and other points of entry, are being implemented to detect any potential cases promptly, and will continue to reinforce national vaccination and public health response strategies as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure Nigeria remains protected from emerging biosecurity threats.
According to the statement, the public is expected to stay informed by relying on trusted health authorities for accurate information on Covid-19 and any of its variants, adding that misinformation can lead to confusion.
The statement also called on Nigerians to continue to practice the preventive measures that helped curb Covid-19, such wearing N45 nose mask, good hand hygiene, maintaining physical distancing were possible, and ensuring proper ventilation in indoor spaces, as well as reporting symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath or loss of taste or smell.
The NBMA continues to prioritize biosecurity and biosafety and is committed to protecting Nigeria from any potential threats to public health.
