The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has launched an investigation into the October 5, 2024, bombing of its state secretariat. Newly elected chairman Tony Okocha announced the formation of a nine-member committee, led by the party’s Legal Adviser, Kelechi Nwuzi, to determine the causes of the attack. The committee is expected to present its findings within a month.
Okocha revealed that this is the second time the secretariat has been targeted, coinciding with recent attacks on local government secretariats following state LGA elections.
The APC chairman criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for excluding the bombing from the state’s Commission of Inquiry into recent incidents, despite a police report confirming the attack.
“The governor has proven that APC can go to hell. But as a party, we will not go to hell,” Okocha stated, emphasizing the government’s duty to protect lives and property.
Additionally, Okocha highlighted the importance of resuming production at the Port Harcourt refinery, citing the potential economic benefits amid the nation’s current exchange rate challenges.
THISDAY observed that other members of the committee include, Bethel Samson (Secretary), Darlington Dike, Rex Nworgu, Abibo Tammy Bereniye, Dr Theresa Chima, Dr Eunice Gam, Prince Obene and Vincent Gbosi.
