Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed a public toilet facility on Savage Street in Ebute Metta for allegedly releasing untreated sewage into a public drainage system.
Officials closed the premises on Wednesday after inspectors confirmed the breach. The enforcement was announced by Tokunbo Wahab, Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, who said operators deliberately pumped raw waste into a community drain. Residents had reportedly raised concerns about foul odours and visible sewage along the street.
Wahab described the discharge as a serious public nuisance that could harm groundwater, sanitation, and environmental safety in Lagos State.
He warned that violators would face prosecution and urged residents and businesses to dispose of wastewater responsibly. “Environmental compliance is a shared civic duty,” he said, adding that monitoring would be stepped up in high-risk areas.
