The Federal Government has asked Nigerians to always maintain good hygiene following the spread of a new variant of Covid 19 virus, XEC.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Director (Information) of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Alaba Balogun, cases of XEC were reported in Australia and have spread to about 29 countries globally, and have shown a more virulence over other circulating strains with concern over its possible impact on service delivery on our Federal Tertiary Hospitals.
The statement called on Nigerians not to panic as no case of the virus has been reported in Nigeria, but to continue with the universal precautions of maintaining personal hygiene including regular washing of hands.
The statement added that the Federal Government has proactively upgraded Federal Tertiary Hospitals by establishing Molecular Laboratories, Isolation centers, and Intensive Care Units equipped with ventilators.
The statement also called on Nigerians to disregard the misinformation circulating on social media regarding the supposed resurgence of Covid 19 in Nigeria.
