The trial of Jude Okoye, former manager and elder brother of the defunct P-Square music duo, has commenced at the Federal High Court in Lagos. He faces a seven-count charge of money laundering involving ₦1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59, brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Okoye was arraigned alongside his company, Northside Music Ltd. The charges include allegations of acquiring a property worth ₦850 million in Ikoyi, Lagos, using funds suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities. Another charge involves the conversion of over $1 million through a bureau de change to conceal the illicit origin of the funds.
At his arraignment on February 26, 2025, Okoye pleaded not guilty to all charges. Initially remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, he was granted bail on March 3, 2025, set at ₦100 million with two sureties possessing landed properties within the court’s jurisdiction. The court also mandated that Okoye must notify the EFCC before any travel outside the jurisdiction
