The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that it is working toward achieving full compliance with international ISO standards by December 2025. The move, according to the agency, is aimed at improving safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction across Nigeria’s airports.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ forum in Lagos, FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, said the authority has already begun implementing key reforms to align its operations with global best practices. “Our target is clear — by December 2025, we want all our major airports to be fully ISO-compliant,” she stated.
Furthermore, Kuku explained that the certification process covers several key areas, including airport safety management, quality assurance, environmental standards, and customer service. She emphasized that the initiative would not only improve passenger experience but also enhance Nigeria’s standing in global aviation rankings.
In addition, FAAN has partnered with international aviation consultants to train staff and upgrade facilities in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and ISO requirements. The process, she noted, involves rigorous audits and continuous improvement programs to ensure sustainability.
Meanwhile, aviation experts have described the move as a timely step that could help Nigeria attract more international traffic and investment. They also believe it will boost operational efficiency and align local airports with the performance standards of leading global hubs.
If the plan succeeds, Nigeria will join a growing list of African countries with ISO-certified airports — a milestone expected to strengthen passenger confidence and the nation’s aviation reputation globally.
