President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged illness. In a statement by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu expressed condolences to Buhari’s widow, Aishat Buhari, and ordered national flags to fly at half-staff in his honor. He has also directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the UK to accompany Buhari’s body back to Nigeria. Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023 and as military head of state from 1984 to 1985, is remembered as a key figure in the nation’s political history.
