Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has condemned early political talk surrounding the 2027 elections, calling it presumptuous and premature. Speaking on Sunday during a visit from former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Chris Adighije, Otti said, “People in 2025 are talking of 2027… there is no guarantee that you would go beyond 2025. Who are you to begin to talk about 2027?”
He added, “Today is certain; tomorrow is a promise. Next tomorrow is gambling… nobody is competent to talk about tomorrow except he or she wants to play God.”
Otti also reiterated his support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, especially the removal of fuel subsidy, calling it a “courageous” move. “It requires somebody with courage… we have behaved in an irresponsible manner for a very long time,” he said. “I will continue to support him because it is the same administration.”
Senator Kalu praised Otti’s leadership and infrastructure improvements, particularly road works. “You have done well for our state,” he said. “I flew from Igbere to Umuahia with ease… it is not the same.”
Kalu and Adighije urged Otti to maintain close ties with President Tinubu while applauding the governor’s performance. Adighije emphasized his continued support for Otti, stating, “It is not about partisan politics but the progress of the state.”
