The Delta State Police Command has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export, who died in the early hours of Easter Monday. Though initial reports suggest she passed after a brief illness, the Delta State Police Command is probing further following a complaint filed by her family, alleging possible foul play.
According to Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, Chief Shimite was confirmed dead upon arrival at the hospital. He added that her husband is currently in protective custody, not under arrest, after reporting his wife’s death and citing threats from her family members. “He (the husband) was the one who called to say that his wife died early this morning and that he is receiving threats from the wife’s family… For that reason, we got him out and placed him under protective custody,” Edafe explained.
He further stated that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed deep sorrow over Chief Shimite’s passing, describing her as an accomplished, intelligent, and charismatic leader whose contributions were invaluable to the state.
“She served Delta State with distinction,” the Governor said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon. “Her expertise and commitment to our export initiatives will be sorely missed. Her death is a painful loss.” Governor Oborevwori extended heartfelt condolences to her family and prayed for God’s comfort and the peaceful repose of her soul.
Chief Shimite’s passing comes as a huge blow to the Delta State Government and the wider community, where she was respected for her dedication, professionalism, and elegance in public service.
