Afrobeats star Davido has condemned the reported armed attack on the Accord Party chairman in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola (popularly known as Baba Isila), calling for restraint and peaceful political engagement ahead of upcoming elections.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday night around 9:50 p.m. near the Osogbo Community Bank axis in the MDS area, when suspected gunmen allegedly opened fire on a blue Toyota Corolla conveying Ajibola and his associates. The attack left the politician injured, while residents in the area were said to have been thrown into panic. He was later taken to a teaching hospital for medical treatment.
Reacting via his X account on Thursday, Davido urged political actors to avoid violence and prioritise national stability, stressing that political rivalry should not translate into insecurity or bloodshed.
“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation.”
He further condemned the attack directly, insisting that such actions have no place in democratic competition.
“The attack on the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all.”
Davido also urged political parties to resolve disputes through electoral processes rather than violence.
“If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons.”
The attack comes amid rising political tension ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, in which Governor Ademola Adeleke is expected to seek re-election.
