Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday formally submitted President Bola Tinubu’s nomination and expression of interest forms to the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, marking a major step in the President’s bid to secure the ruling party’s ticket for the 2027 election.
The submission took place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, where Shettima urged APC governors, National Assembly members, party officials and supporters to rally behind Tinubu’s second-term ambition. He said the President had shown courage and resilience in managing Nigeria’s economic and social challenges under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are here, first, as Nigerians, and secondly as members of the All Progressives Congress, to submit this very priceless nomination form of our dear President and leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as he seeks to lead us for another four-year term,” Shettima said.
The Vice President said Tinubu had taken difficult but necessary decisions to stabilise the economy, restore investor confidence and prepare the country for long-term growth. According to him, the pressures faced by the administration had strengthened the President’s leadership rather than weakened it.
“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has delivered on the mandate of renewal, stability and national rebirth,” Shettima said, adding that the President had steered the country through “turbulent waters” with courage.
The development follows the earlier purchase of the APC presidential forms on Tinubu’s behalf by James Faleke, the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency and founder of the Tinubu Support Groups. Reports said the forms were valued at ₦100 million, formally signalling the start of Tinubu’s re-election process within the APC.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, also praised Tinubu’s leadership, saying the administration’s reforms had placed Nigeria on a path toward recovery and progress. He said the presence of party leaders at the event showed broad support for the President’s re-election bid.
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, said the party’s endorsement of Tinubu was based on what he described as the administration’s performance across key sectors. Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, said APC governors would work to ensure Tinubu’s re-election.
Governors from Plateau, Ogun, Niger, Kaduna, Ondo, Katsina, Borno, Cross River, Taraba, Yobe, Nasarawa and Bayelsa were among those present.
The 2027 general election is scheduled to begin with the presidential and National Assembly polls on January 16, 2027.
