A team of mobile policemen in Calabar sealed off the venue for the scheduled inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) membership registration, mobilisation, and revalidation committee on Tuesday.
The committee, headed by Eko Alobo, was set to be inaugurated at 10:00 a.m. at the Event Centre along Marian Road ahead of the party’s primaries. Security operatives cordoned off the site from 7:00 a.m., preventing party members from entering.
A source indicated the action was taken in response to a petition from some ADC members. Attempts to resolve the standoff were unsuccessful, even after senior party officials, including South South Zonal Vice Chairman Dr. Usani Uguru Usani and Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa, met with the Commissioner of Police.
Following the impasse, the meeting was relocated to Usani’s residence, where large crowds of party members have now gathered.
