Abuja, Nigeria — Nigeria’s Wahid Enitan Oshodi has been re-elected Executive Vice President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), securing another four-year term in a tightly contested global vote.
Oshodi won re-election in the first round during the continuation of the ITTF’s 2025 Annual General Meeting, held online on Saturday, emerging among the top seven candidates from a field of 15 drawn from multiple continents. He will serve on the eight-member executive vice presidential team from 2025 to 2029.
The Nigerian administrator, who currently heads ITTF Africa (the African Table Tennis Federation), was the only African elected to the vice president slate, despite three candidates from the continent contesting the poll. He is also one of just two returning members from the outgoing executive board, alongside China’s Liu Guoliang, as six new officials join the federation’s top leadership.
In a further boost for Nigeria, veteran sports official Olabanji Oladapo, former Secretary General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, was confirmed as a member of the ITTF Council following ratification of council positions, enhancing the country’s voice within the sport’s global parliament.
Oshodi is expected to work closely with ITTF President Petra Sörling, who was re-elected earlier this year, as the federation plots its centenary in 2026 and a new strategic cycle leading up to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. His portfolio on the previous board included governance, communications and world rankings, areas that will remain central as table tennis seeks to modernise and grow commercially.
A seasoned sports administrator, legal practitioner and civil engineer, Oshodi has held prominent roles across Nigerian and African sport. He served as Lagos State Commissioner for Youth, Sports and Social Development from 2011, overseeing sports infrastructure and the hosting of the 2012 National Sports Festival. As President of the Nigerian Table Tennis Federation from 2013, he championed youth programmes and helped Nigeria host multiple ITTF-sanctioned events, boosting international exposure for local players.
His continental rise gathered pace in 2016 when he became Vice President of ITTF Africa (Western Region), before being elected Deputy President in 2021 and President in 2024, with a stated focus on widening access to table tennis and making it one of Africa’s leading sports.
With his re-election at the global level, Oshodi is now positioned to further advance African interests within the ITTF, push for greater investment in developing nations and strengthen pathways for African athletes to reach the world stage. Nigerian officials say his continued presence on the top table confirms the country’s status as one of the continent’s powerhouses in the sport.
