António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, arrived in Beirut on Wednesday, saying his visit was intended to show “solidarity with the people of Lebanon” amid the country’s ongoing challenges.
Speaking after landing, Guterres said the trip underscored the UN’s support for Lebanon and its population during a period of economic hardship and regional tensions.
The UN chief is expected to meet Lebanese officials and discuss humanitarian assistance, security concerns and the broader regional situation during his visit.
Guterres reiterated the organization’s commitment to Lebanon, emphasizing that the United Nations stands with the country and its people during difficult times.
