Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern ultimatum to Hamas, demanding the immediate release of hostages held by the group amid the escalating Middle East conflict.
In a statement on Saturday, Trump described his message as a “last warning”, insisting that the international community must not allow hostage-taking to continue unchecked.
“This is my final warning to Hamas. Free the hostages now, because the world will not stand by idly. If they fail to act, there will be consequences,” Trump declared.
The warning follows weeks of mounting pressure on Hamas from global leaders and humanitarian groups, who have condemned the use of civilians as bargaining tools. Reports suggest both foreign nationals and local residents remain in captivity under worsening humanitarian conditions.
Trump argued that the crisis represents a major test of global resolve.
“No organisation should be allowed to hold innocent lives as leverage. The world must respond with strength to stop this practice,” he added.
Governments across Europe and the Middle East have echoed similar demands for the unconditional release of hostages, while the United Nations continues to push for mediated solutions. Analysts warn that prolonged detentions risk deepening the crisis and sparking wider instability in the region.
Trump’s statement, though controversial, has once again placed him at the centre of U.S. foreign policy debates as he positions himself for a potential return to power in 2026.
