Kyiv has come under another massive overnight drone assault by Russian forces, with at least two people killed and 13 injured, according to local officials. Fires are reported across multiple districts of the Ukrainian capital as wreckage from drones struck residential and commercial buildings.
The central Shevchenkivskyi district was hit particularly hard, with drone fragments crashing into the roof of a residential building. Unverified videos circulating online show bright flashes and explosions in Kyiv’s night sky as Ukrainian air defence systems responded to the onslaught.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, confirmed multiple fires:
“Residential buildings, vehicles, warehouses, office and non-residential buildings are burning. Unfortunately, we have two dead… This is a terrible loss.”
Authorities urged residents to remain in shelters during the attack and to keep windows closed due to the thick smoke engulfing parts of the city. This comes just days after Ukraine reported the largest aerial barrage since the war began: 728 drones and 13 missiles launched across the country on Tuesday night.
Other Developments:
- Ukraine’s emergency service (DSNS) reported three people killed in a Russian airstrike on Kostiantynivka, near the eastern front.
- The U.S. has resumed sending some weapons to Ukraine, according to Reuters, days after suspending certain arms deliveries.
- No official comment has been issued by the Russian military on this latest Kyiv assault.
This latest escalation follows over two years of war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. The attacks highlight the continued intensity of the conflict and its deadly impact on civilians far from the front lines.
