Beirut — The Israeli military said it carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Monday, hitting a quarry operated by the International Majabel Company and a site linked to the environmental group Green Without Borders, alleging both were being used by Hezbollah.
In statements after the strikes, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Hezbollah was using the quarry to “rebuild terrorist facilities and infrastructure,” and accused Green Without Borders of serving as cover to “conceal terrorist activities.” The IDF provided no public evidence to support the claims. Hezbollah and Green Without Borders did not immediately comment.
Lebanon’s Health Ministry said six people were wounded in the towns of Bnaafoul and Ansar. The state-run National News Agency reported powerful blasts were felt across a wide area, “causing tremors that sparked panic and tension among citizens.”
The strikes follow Israeli attacks in recent days on lots containing bulldozers and excavators that Israel alleged were bound for Hezbollah use, underscoring a pattern of targeting support infrastructure as well as military positions.
Cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah have flared almost daily since October 2023, with exchanges of rocket fire, drone launches and airstrikes displacing civilians on both sides of the frontier. Monday’s incident adds to fears of further escalation and a broader regional conflict as international mediators continue efforts to restore calm along the Israel–Lebanon boundary.
