Israel has said it killed one of Iran’s most senior security figures, Ali Larijani, in a targeted overnight strike, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between the two countries.
According to Israeli officials, the operation struck a location in Tehran, eliminating Larijani, who served as secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and was a key figure in shaping the country’s military and political strategy.
Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz described the killing as a major blow to Tehran’s leadership, adding that the campaign is aimed at dismantling what he called Iran’s command structure.
The Israeli military also reported a separate strike that killed Gholamreza Soleimani, head of the Basij paramilitary force, which has been involved in internal security operations and crackdowns on protests.
However, Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed Larijani’s death, and some reports indicate that his fate remains unclear following the attack.
If confirmed, Larijani would be among the highest-ranking Iranian officials killed in the conflict, which has already seen heavy losses within the country’s military and political leadership amid intensifying Israeli strikes.
The developments come as hostilities between Israel and Iran continue to widen, raising concerns about further regional instability and the potential for broader confrontation.
