Iran has appointed a new senior security official following the killing of veteran politician Ali Larijani in a recent airstrike, moving swiftly to fill one of its most critical leadership positions.
State-linked reports said Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr has been named secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, replacing Larijani, who died in an اسرائیلی strike amid escalating regional hostilities.
Zolghadr, a former senior commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and an experienced figure in Iran’s political and security establishment, now assumes a central role in coordinating the country’s defence and national security strategy during a period of heightened tension.
Larijani, a key architect of Iran’s security and foreign policy, was among the most senior officials killed since the conflict intensified, dealing a significant blow to Tehran’s leadership structure.
The rapid appointment underscores Iran’s reliance on seasoned military and political figures to maintain continuity in governance and security operations as the crisis deepens.
