The United States military has completed a fresh wave of airstrikes against military targets in Iran after President Donald Trump announced that a temporary ceasefire between the two countries was no longer in effect, raising fears of a renewed escalation in the conflict.

According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation targeted about 90 Iranian military sites over two days. The strikes were aimed at weakening Iran’s ability to threaten international shipping and U.S. interests, particularly in and around the Strait of Hormuz.

Military officials said the latest operation focused on missile launch facilities, drone infrastructure, command centres, intelligence sites and other strategic military assets. CENTCOM described the strikes as part of efforts to safeguard freedom of navigation and protect American personnel and commercial vessels operating in the region.

Trump announced the collapse of the ceasefire while addressing reporters, saying recent Iranian actions had rendered the agreement ineffective.

“The ceasefire is over.”

The renewed military action followed attacks blamed on Iran against commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route. U.S. officials said the strikes were carried out in response to those incidents and were intended to reduce Iran’s capacity to launch further attacks.

Iran condemned the latest bombardment and vowed to respond, while reports indicated that explosions were heard in several parts of the country during the operation. The renewed exchange of hostilities has heightened concerns that the conflict could spread further across the Middle East.

Although Trump suggested the United States does not seek a prolonged war, he warned that additional military action could follow if Iran continues attacks on shipping or U.S. interests.

“We are not looking for a long war.”

International observers have expressed growing concern over the deteriorating security situation, warning that continued fighting could disrupt global energy supplies and further destabilise the region. Oil markets reacted to the renewed conflict with increased volatility as investors monitored developments around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

The latest strikes mark one of the most significant escalations since the two sides agreed to an interim truce weeks ago. With diplomatic efforts now under severe strain, analysts say prospects for a lasting settlement remain uncertain as both Washington and Tehran continue to exchange military and political warnings.
