The Federal Ministry of Works has announced the partial closure of sections of the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road from Monday to allow contractors complete ongoing reconstruction works on the highway. The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday. He said the closure followed a directive by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, instructing the contractor, Messrs Arab Contractors, to resume work on critical sections of the road and speed up delivery of the project.

According to Komolafe, the affected areas are the stretch from Ikorodu Roundabout to Sabo Junction in Lagos State and the section from Cement to Coca-Cola inward Sagamu in Ogun State. He explained that traffic moving from Ikorodu toward Sagamu will be diverted through the construction corridors under a counterflow arrangement while work is ongoing. The arrangement is expected to help maintain movement along the route, although motorists may experience delays during the construction period.

Komolafe said the reconstruction work will last for about three months to allow the contractor complete the required works and give the rigid pavement enough time to cure properly. He added that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed to manage traffic around the affected sections and reduce congestion. The controller appealed to motorists, commuters and residents who use the corridor to cooperate with traffic managers and law enforcement officers throughout the period. He said compliance with diversion plans and traffic instructions would be necessary to ensure safety and limit gridlock.

The ministry also apologised for the inconvenience the partial closure may cause, saying the reconstruction is necessary to improve the durability, safety and overall condition of the road.

The Ikorodu-Sagamu Road is a major link between Lagos and Ogun states, serving commuters, traders, transporters and industrial users moving between Ikorodu, Sagamu and other parts of the South-West. The planned closure is therefore expected to affect daily movement, especially during peak traffic hours. Motorists are advised to plan their trips ahead, allow extra travel time and follow official traffic guidance until the affected sections are reopened.
